Drone Captures Feeding Basking Sharks

Drone enthusiasts have recorded stunning footage of two basking sharks feeding off the coast of Gloucester on the US east coast

After hearing of shark sightings in the area last Friday, Martin Del Vecchio and Jason Grow went to the beach to capture the sharks feeding near Bass Rocks in Massachusetts.

'When I got it over the shark I saw a big glowy white part. And I thought oh this is a great white shark. This is going to be awesome. But then I saw the big mouth,' Martin Del Vecchio told WHDH.com.

The pair recorded two hours of high-definition footage and compiled the stunning video below:

Speaking to WHDH.com, Del Vechhio said, 'It's probably the most excited I've been flying my drone since the very first time I flew it. I've lived here 19 years and I've never seen a basking shark. It's a really cool thing to see and it's a really cool thing to be able to fly over and see up close.'

The basking shark is the second largest living fish, reaching lengths of up to 12m, and is one of three shark species feeding on plankton.
