Invasive Crustaceans Found In UK Waters

Fishermen have reported catches of non-native crab and lobster species off the Sussex coast

A few fishermen have caught the invasive lobster (Canadian Homarus americanus) and an invasive crab species (Cancer magister) near Brighton.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) asks individuals to keep any animals, regardless of its size, and report the catch to the MMO office on 01273 424849 or take them to a local fish merchant.

The MMO statement emphasises that these species should not be released back into the water under any circumstances as they could negatively impact the ecosystem.
