Sharks Films Not to Miss

top5sharkvids 1000

As with any 'top' list, there's way too many to choose from, but here are five exceedingly good shark-related videos that are most definitely worth a watch!

I'm Just a Shark

This quirky, but beautifully shot and haunting, short documentary was filmed by Pascale Briançon and Julien Marckt, voiced by Daniel Njo Lobé. Narrated as if it were the thoughts of a shark itself, it's a brief but important reminder of the desperate plight of the world's shark population.

Great Whites Breaching - BBC Earth

You can't go wrong with anything narrated by Sir David Attenborough. In this short clip from Planet Earth, the team record great whites breaching in super-slow motion as they hunt for seals, an incredibly difficult feat for cinematographers, as you never know when or where the shark is going to appear. It wasn't so long ago that this behaviour was first recorded, but now there's a huge amount of footage available on YouTube. You should also check out this excellent footage from Barcroft TV

Shark Girl

Shark girl is a multi-award winning 2014 documentary following the adventures of Madison Stewart, who grew up swimming with sharks and now leads a campaign to preserve the species by educating people on how sharks are not the mindless killing machines that many people still believe them to be.

Whale Sharks - Marine Megafauna Foundation

Whale sharks are the largest species of fish in the world's oceans, and yet we know very little about them. There are plenty of whale shark videos out there, but here's a brief introduction to these gentle giants from the Marine Megafauna Foundation, the world's premiere whale shark research organisation.

Sharkwater

Rob Stewart's 2006 documentary is without question one of the most inspirational documentaries about shark conservation ever made. At great risk to his own life, Rob took us through a horrific journey inside the illegal shark finning trade, bringing it to the world's attention as nobody had done before. Tragically, Rob died during a dive in January 2017 while filming for the sequel, which will be completed in his honour and is scheduled for release later this year.
