Spanish dive operators Blue Explorers are opening a new resort in May 2018 with special offers available for early bookings on the island of Gran Canaria, laying claim to the title of 'Spain's first resort dedicated to scuba diving'.

The new establishment will open in Puerto de Mogán, a picturesque fishing village on the south-west coast of Gran Canaria. The resort offers 14 one and two-bedroom apartments alongside the fully equipped dive centre, bar, restaurant and dive shop. Twenty dive sites are located around the resort with depths ranging from 12 to 30m, teeming with diverse marine life and accessible from Taurto Bay and Puerto de Mogán using two of Blue Explorers' purpose-built RIBs. Seventy-metre deep sites for technical divers are also available.

With year-round sunshine on the island, the resort offers a holiday experience where 'all things pertaining to the sea, diving and care of our oceans meet and mingle,' according to a press release from Blue Explorers. 'The experienced and multi-lingual dive crew and resort staff are passionate about the sea, to such an extent that all staff are divers - from the chefs to resort managers.'

Greg Wixted, founding director of Blue Explorers, said: 'Our Gran Canaria resort will be Blue Explorers’ flagship specialist scuba diving destination. We’ve combined our passion for the sport, with our love of the stunning Canarian marine life, and our belief that sporting holidays should offer the same exclusivity and high quality of luxury vacations. We’re looking forward to welcoming our first guests this May, and launching Spain's first ever resort dedicated to scuba diving.

'Blue Explorers have long been taking experienced and novice divers into the warm Atlantic waters on both Gran Canaria and Tenerife with 10,000 divers of all ages, from kids to pensioners, have ventured into the deep with their highly experienced and multi-lingual team.'

The Blue Explorers’ Resort has been designed to offer guests all the amenities of a large resort, but with the privacy and exclusivity of a specialist destination. Close by are shops, cafes, and restaurants and the village harbour with its picturesque, brightly coloured, traditional Canarian architecture and pretty canals and bridges for those exploring beyond the resort.

The Canaries offer some of the best value dive destinations internationally, accessible all year round, and being within short-haul flight range from the UK means costs, as well as travel times, are kept low, making a weekend dive break possible and travelling with young and older people much less stressful.

Blue Explorers' passion for the sea has forged within the team that they consider themselves custodians of the ocean. As a result, plastic straws and cups are banned from their operations, they ask divers to collect beach rubbish and they only use use eco-friendly and ethically sourced products in the resort and dive centres.

When guests are not diving they can select from a plethora of land excursions, such as jeep safaris into the strikingly beautiful volcanic landscapes famous in the Canary Islands, or take to the waves with luxurious sunset sailing trips and whale watching excursions.
