The Philippines Wins Second World Travel Award in Quick Succession
The Philippines has been voted World's Leading Dive Destination for the second time in quick succession, at the 2019 World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony held recently in Muscat, Oman.
The Philippines bested eight other global dive destinations including The Azores, Bora Bora, The Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galápagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef, the Maldives, and Mexico. Palawan’s Amanpulo Resort won the award for World’s Leading Dive Resort.
The award comes just two months after the Philippines won the title of Asia’s Leading Dive Destination at the WTA event for Asia and Oceania, held in October in Vietnam, where the Philippines Department of Tourism was also recognized as Asia’s Leading Tourism Board for its efforts to increase visitor arrivals to the Philippines during the previous year.
'Dubbed by marine experts and scientists as the heart of marine biodiversity in the world, our country is home to the highest concentration of coral reef life and an astounding variety of marine species,' said Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat. 'This latest recognition is a validation that the Philippines is truly a premier dive destination.'
