The first Nudibranch Photo Competition, sponsored by Nauticam UK was held this year. Focusing on the tiny critters proved popular, with more than 1,000 entries from divers around the world.
This image by Mark Webster won first place in the UK category of the competition. The species Favorinus branchialis lays its eggs within a coil of eggs of a larger species. The species is not often found in UK waters with this colouration, being more typical of the Mediterranean. The photo was taken in Falmouth Bay, Cornwall.
This image of a Janolus cristatus nudibranch by Adriano Morettin won first place in the World category.
Christian Skauge won second place in the world category. The Cumanotus beaumonti nudibranch is a rare sight, feeding on only one species of hydroid. Christian snapped this photo of one at Gulen Dive Resort in Norway.
