Anilao Underwater Photo Festival
The third annual Anilao Underwater Photo Festival taking place on 25-29 November is open for registrations
Professional and amateur underwater photographers are invited to take part in the third annual Anilao Underwater Photography festival taking place at the Acacia Resort and Dive Center in Anilao, Philippines on 25-29 November 2015
Participants from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, US, Brazil, Korea, Canada, Japan, and the Philippines have so far registered for this year's festival.
The event schedule includes fun dives, seminars and photo presentations for the course of the five days.
Photographers can either compete in the open class which is open to all participants or the compact class which is restricted to photographers shooting with compact cameras. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Acacia Resort on 29 November.
- Macro/SuperMacro Photography: Any close-up photo of any underwater subject using macro lenses and/or close up lenses
- Marine Behavior: Any photograph shot to display specific behavior of marine life underwater
- Nudibranch Portrait: Profile photos of any species of nudibranchs, sea slugs. Flatworms are not included
- Crustacean Portrait: Profile photos of any species of crustaceans (shrimps, crabs, lobsters, crayfish, krill, barnacles)
- Portfolio (DOT photographer of the year): The winner will be judged based on the four main categories mentioned above
Yorko Summer (Taiwan and Shanghai)
Yorko is a certified PADI Dive Instructor and travel journalist based in Taiwan and Shanghai. Yorko started his scuba diving and UW photography career in 2002 and his photographs are often seen on the Internet, newspapers and magazines (EZDIVE, Dive Photo Guide, Xpert Holidays, among others). He is a perennial judge and resource speaker in prominent photo competitions in China and dive shows like ADEX and BIDRS. Yorko is particularly fascinated in macro life. He has lived in the exotic island of Palau and often visits Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia.
Lia Barrett (USA)
Lia is the photo editor of Dive Photo Guide. She is also the co-founder and creative director of Prawno Apparel, an ocean-minded apparel company that draws designs directly from Lia’s photographs. She has been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, including the front page of the New York Times, BBC, CNN, Time, Men’s Journal and Silverkris Magazine. She has sat on several judging panels, and finds great pleasure in encouraging other photographers to grow and develop their craft.
Ken Thongpila (Australia)
An Australian-Thai UW photographer based in Sydney, he has been featured in diving magazines and websites and has won many awards work. In October 2011, Ken created the Underwater Macro Photographers (UWMPG) Facebook Group which quickly became popular with the UW photography community and has more than 30,000 members from all over the world. The aim of the group is 'Sharing, learning and inspiring each other'. The group shares information, ideas and tips on how to take better macro photos. He has been diving in Australia and overseas but considers Anilao, Philippines as his favourite destination for macro photography.
Yusuke Yoshino (Japan)
Yusuke has is an expert underwater photographer with 33 years of experience. He has taken underwater photographs in 80 countries and established a stock library, Yusuke Yoshino Photo Office, with 200,000 slides and digital photos. He is a member of the prominent Japan Professional Photographers Society and has published many photo books, fish encyclopedias and books. His recent publication The Most beautiful Marine Creatures is a bestseller on Amazon.
Cem Gazivekili (Turkey)
Cem started underwater photography in 2004 with a compact camera. A year later, the passion he has for underwater photography took him to upgrade his camera system to DSLR. He travelled to the best dive destinations worldwide, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Red Sea, Cuba, the Philippines, Jordan, Marmara Sea, Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean. His first major achievements in the underwater photography world was being awarded third place in Marine Photo Magazine's underwater competition in 2008 and the first place in Turkish National competition in 2009. His first international competition experience was in the CMAS World Underwater Championship, Cuba, in 2013 as a Turkish National Team photographer. During the last two years, he won the portfolio award in both 1st and 2nd Anilao Underwater Photo Competition Festivals and received the title from The Philippines Department Of Tourism as The DOT Photographer of the Year.
