Ocean Art Underwater Safe Under the Sea Photography Competition
The Underwater Photography Guide has announced that it is to host a special underwater photo competition while the world remains in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Ocean Art 'Safe Under the Sea' Underwater Photo Competition is an addition to the Underwater Photography Guide's regular Ocean Art competition, which will open as usual in Autumn of this year. It is hoped that the extra competition will 'bring people together, encourage artistic expression, and raise money to help fight Coronavirus', according to a 14 April press release. One-quarter of all proceeds will be donated to the CDC Foundation and the WHO's Covid-19 response fund.
'International dive travel is one of the businesses hit hardest by the recent economic downturn. Dive operators, travel agents, and customers have all been largely affected and underwater photographers are some of the most prolific customers.'
'Times are tough, but perhaps now is the most opportune moment to self-reflect, learn, reminisce, edit photos, and support our extended human family. The Underwater Photography Guide has teamed up with Bluewater Photo and Travel to present a special edition of our prestigious underwater photography competition - Ocean Art: Safe Under the Sea. The goal of this photo competition is to bring our global underwater photographic community together, provide an outlet for creative expression, and to raise money to help fight Covid-19 for the benefit of all. '
Twelve categories are available in the competition, including a new 'Shipwreck' category and the popular 'Blackwater' and 'Underwater Conservation' categories from the 2019 competition. Although the 'Novice' categories have been removed for this particular competition, the three 'Compact' categories remain, in order to ensure a reasonably level playing field.
The categories as listed are: Wide-Angle, Macro, Marine Life Behavior, Portrait, Cold Water, Shipwrecks, Blackwater, Underwater Conservation, Compact Wide-Angle, Compact Macro, Compact Behavior and Underwater Art
The competition will be judged by the Underwater Photography Guide's staff. Prizes include gift certificates from Bluewater Photo, gift certificates from Bluewater Travel, a dive trip for one with Atlantis Dive Resorts (Philippines), a dive trip with Aquamarine Diving (Indonesia), a $500 gift certificate and a DS 161 strobe from Ikelite, and a Sea Dragon 3000F Auto Photo/Video Light from SeaLife.
The deadline for entry is 23:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on 30 June 2020, and all entries must be submitted via the Underwater Photography Guide's online portal. For more information and to submit photographs visit www.uwphotographyguide.com/ocean-art
