Big Shot | Seascapes

650Seascapes

With more than double the number of entries for this issue’s Big Shot photo competition, compared to the previous rounds, the judges – Douglas David Seifert, Steve Jones and Graeme Gourlay – had plenty of first-class images on the theme of ‘Seascapes’ to consider.

Standing out were a series of glorious cenote shots from Tom St George – atmospheric, beautifully lit and carefully composed. You just want to plunge into the crystal-clear water and explore them for yourself.

However, he was pipped at the post by Oscar Ramirez’s stunning image of a sea lion taken in the kelp off Santa Barbara Island in California. A perfect composition. Oscar, from California, wins a week-long trip aboard the Roatan Aggressor.

Highly commended was a great bait-ball shot taken by Naomi Rose in Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. We have also included her shot of a giant northern petrel which, while it didn’t exactly fit the brief, made all the judges laugh. In these difficult times, we all need cheering up!

Also highly commended was a serene Raja Ampat reef scene, taken by Oscar Ramirez.

For our next issue, search out your most impressive nudibranch shot. We want images that are glorious and unusual. Enter by tagging your unique nudibranchs with #DIVEsBigShotNudibranchs, post them on social media and then enter the competition on our website before 31 January 2021. The winner will win a week-long trip aboard an Aggressor Adventures liveaboard. Good luck!
