Featured Photographer | Severin Pöhlmann
My name is Severin Pöhlmann and I am a mechanical engineer from Munich, Germany. For as long as I can remember, I was very interested in animals of any kind - may be apart from mosquitos. My passion for the underwater world started as a child when I would go snorkelling in the Mediterranean Sea in Croatia and Italy during our family holidays.
The first time I saw a reef was in Egypt and it was absolutely jaw-dropping. After this experience, I kept going back to the South of Egypt sand learned to dive in 2008. After university, I went on a round-the-world trip with my wife for almost one year with only a compact camera. The trip was amazing and my camera helped me bring my stories and experiences to life.
This was followed by many more travels around the globe and I brought along the camera I’m still shooting with now: my Olympus OMD-EM5. It is now quite old and I am still very happy with it. Having dived now in several amazing locations - Egypt, Galapagos, Australia, Caribbean Sea, French Polynesia - South East Asia is my absolute favourite because it offers the highest diversity of underwater flora and fauna and features some of the most amazing and elusive underwater creatures on the planet.
I have a couple of animals on my bucket list and number one, my personal holy grail, is the Rhinopias. I have been searching for it for quite a while but so far without luck.
