Groundbreaking Dive Computer Gets a Kickstarter Funded Upgrade
In 2019, the Kickstarter-funded Oceans S1 dive computer brought the scuba diving community the first recreational dive computer with inter-buddy underwater comms, which launched on the open market in August 2020.
Following the computer's successful uptake, Oceans has this week launched an upgraded model on Kickstarter, supported by explorer Fabien Cousteau – the Supersonic S2. The new computer will feature upgraded buddy communications with five predefined messages as well as the S1's haptic 'ping'; air integration with Oceans' TX Supersonic tank pod; an upgraded display and system chip; plus a redesigned cover and wristband, and an optional bungee kit.
Like the S1, the S2 Supersonic's communication system will allow buddy teams to ping each other over a distance of around 20m underwater, with the addition of five new predefined messages including 'Ascend', 'Stay', 'Cold', 'Shark', and 'Assist'.
The Oceans TX Supersonic AI (Air Integration) add-on will be enabled when 400 S2 units have been sold, and will allow up to five tank pods to be connected to each computer, allowing divers to monitor their buddies' remaining air supply at a distance of up to 15m between transmitter and computer.
The Oceans S2 Supersonic is priced at €349 for the Early Bird Discount (€299 for the Super Early Bird Discount) and is expected to ship from August 2021.
