An incredible bird's-eye view of cetaceans, captured by a video camera on a flying drone

As divers, we tend to think we get a much better view of marine animals than those above the surface. But this video of whales and dolphins filmed from a small drone shows just how incredible whales and dolphins can be viewed from up in the air.

The video was made by Captain Dave Anderson of Capt Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari in Dana Point, California. He recorded footage of thousands of common dolphins and three Gray whales off California, as well as capturing intimate moments between a humpback whale and her newborn calf in Maui.

'Drones are going to change how we view the animal world,' says Anderson. 'I learned so much about these whales and dolphins from this drone footage that it feels like I have entered a new dimension.'
