A rare megamouth shark has been caught off the coast of Japan
Megamouth shark caught in Japan
The shark, named for the size of its huge mouth, lives in very deep water and so it's incredibly unusual for people to see or catch it. This is, in fact, only the 58th time an individual of this species has been found.
The megamouth was caught in waters off Shizuoka last month. The female shark is more than 4m long and weighs almost 700kg.
It has gone on display to the public at the Marine Science Museum in Shizuoka City.
