Sign Up to Save Our Seas

In September the UN is to discuss ways to protect and govern the world's oceans - the Global Ocean Commission has drawn an eight-point plan and is calling for mass support

In a final report before the UN discussions, the Global Ocean Commission outlines eight key areas for action covering everything from over-fishing, climate change, plastic pollution, global governance and calls for a concerted effort to save our seas.

It says:  'For too long we’ve taken out too many fish, polluted indiscriminately, and damaged vulnerable habitats on the seabed. We are pushing our ocean system to the point of collapse, and risking our own health and prosperity.'

The report staters that marine and coastal resources are worth US$3 trillion a year – around 5 per cent of the world’s GDP – and worldwide, 350 million jobs are linked to the ocean. And unless urgent action is taken we are putting this at risk.
