Great Whites In Action

Researchers film great white sharks in action

In 2013, engineers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution  designed an underwater rig equipped with six GoPro video cameras and various sensors to film great white sharks off Guadalupe Island in Mexico.

Their goal was to track and film great whites that had previously been tagged with accoustic tags. The footage captured with the custom-built REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring Units) 'SharkCam' shed some light on the sharks' territorial behaviour and hunting techniques and has provided scientists with a first close-up view of predatory attacks of wild sharks.
