An Underwater View of Sydney

Sydney's top 10 marine spots have been added to the underwater version of Google Street View

Coinciding with the IUCN World Parks Conference held in Sydney from 12-19 November, the Catlin Seaview Survey launched the public access to a 360-degree panoramic view of 10 of Sydney's most iconic underwater spots, including Bondi Beach, Manly and various sites inside Sydney Harbour.

Originally concentrating on coral reefs as the most threatened of all marine environments, the team surveyed large stretches of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Caribbean, the Coral Triangle, the Galapagos Islands and Hawaii in the past.

The addition of Sydney's temperate waters marked a turning point for the Catlin Seaview Survey and an expansion of the project to include other marine areas that are of huge significance.

However, the objectives of the project have not changed: to allow the public to seeing the earth’s seas and oceans in a whole new light, to monitor developments and degradation of marine environments and to foster greater stewardship of our oceans.
