Robot Killer to Patrol Great Barrier Reef

Queensland University of Technology have launched a robot designed to kill the aggressive crown-of-thorns starfish

The robot will patrol the Great Barrier Reef and inject the invasive species with a lethal injection.

After a series of trials in Queensland's Moreton Bay, scientists hope to start using the robot in early December.

Crown-of-thorns starfish have had an devastating impact on the Great Barrier Reef. It has been estimated that the mollusc is responsible for about 40 per cent of the decline in coral species across the reef.
