A Conservation Story to Download for World Ocean Day

Wilbur the whale travels the oceans trying to find his mum and comes across some awful problems along the way – coral bleaching, long-line fishing, run-off pollution, plastic waste, plagues of sea urchins and deep-sea trawling!

The story is told in a beautifully illustrated book by 24-year-old Alexandra Aspinall as part of her final project for a Masters degree in marine environmental management at York University.

'I wanted to raise awareness about conservation, but in a fun way', Alexandra told DIVE in between doing presentations to local school children about Wilbur's story and the issues it discusses.

To mark World Ocean Day (Saturday, 8 June) we are giving away free downloads of Alexandra's book Wilbur The Lost Whale. Get your copy and give one to every child you know who wants to learn more about our oceans and the fight to protect them.

'By 2030 we want 30 per cent of the ocean to be protected,' Alexandra explained. 'And to achieve that goal we need the next generation to understand just what is at risk.'
