HEPCA Issues Call For Sightings of Injured Oceanic Whitetip
The Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA) has issued a call for Red Sea divers to be on the alert for an injured oceanic whitetip shark.
The shark has become entangled in a rubber octopus holder as a young animal, which is now cutting into the animal's flesh as it matures. The shark has recently been spotted at the Brothers Islands, only accessible by liveaboard, and comments on HEPCA's Facebook post suggest it has been spotted several times since at least 2018.
Divers who spot the shark should report the sighting to their dive guides and cruise directors as soon as it is safely possible to do so, or if they have already returned from their holiday, contact HEPCA with date, time, and location information to help the authorities track down the shark.
