ColdWater Viktor Lyagushkin IMG 6815 copy

'Diver under ice' by Viktor Lyagushkin

This photo of a diver in an old quarry in Ekaterinburg, Russia, won Best of Show in the Ocean Art Competition 2013. ‘In winter the quarry is covered with thick ice and snow,’ says Viktor. ‘The circles and rays on ice “sky” are manmade. According to Russian ice diving standards the snow should be removed from the ice in such strange manner to let divers orientate themselves beneath the ice and easily find their way back.’

This photo reminded me of War of the Worlds.’ His image won fourth place in the Marine Life Behaviour category in the Ocean Art Competition.
