Call to Enter the BWP Awards
Coast and Marine and Overall BWPA 2016 Winner - George Stoyle, 'Hitchhikers'
(Lion’s mane jellyfish, Cyanea capillata, St Kilda, Scotland)
There’s just over 6 weeks left for budding photographers to submit their pictures to the British Wildlife Photography Awards.
The competition is sponsored by Canon and the BBC Wildlife Magazine (amongst others), and the especially important category of ‘Coast and Marine’ is sponsored by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Closing date for entries this year is midnight on Saturday, 3 June.
The aim of the competition is to ‘celebrate the best of British wildlife, in all its beauty and diversity’, while recognising the talents of UK photographers.
Coast and Marine BWPA 2016 Highly Commended - Jane Morgan, 'Feather Spirals'
(Double spiral or fan worm, Bispira volutacornis, Dorset, England)
The overall winning entry will received a £5,000 cash prize, with the best in each category receiving a prize equivalent to £1,000. Special prizes for young photographers will also be awarded. All the best photographs will be showcased in a national exhibition and be published in a book celebrating the best of British photography.
Needless to say, here at DIVE we’re a little bit biased and, given that the British coastline has an amazing variety of life – from the smallest shrimps and nudibranchs to seals and sharks – we reckon that an underwater photographer out there is just waiting to be crowned as winner.
Coast and Marine BWPA 2016 Highly Commended - Adam Hanlon, 'Welcome to the Party'
(Grey seal, Halichoerus grypus, Farne Islands, Northumberland, England)
Entries must be submitted through the BWPA website, which you can find at www.bwpawards.org, and there is an entry fee, although ‘Young Photographers’ aged 18 and under can enter up to six photographs for free.
Winners will be decided shortly after the competition closes, and as an added bonus, we’ll publish them here on DIVE Magazine’s website.
