summer print title

Our Summer 2018 Print Edition is now available to buy, hitting the newsstands from this weekend, or in our online store if your local magazine stand doesn't cut the mustard. As always, we have filled the pages with some of the best photography that's out there, some of the greatest writing from our correspondents, and all printed on high-quality art paper in a coffee-table format that - unlike some other publications - is too good to be used as a coaster! Here are some of the highlights from our 'Kaleidoscope Edition', but there's plenty more inside. Order your copy or subscribe for a full year in our online store - and don't forget, we deliver to anywhere in the world there's a postal service.

One of the main draws to coral reef diving is the spectacular array of colour that exists under the blue seas, but apart from filling our cameras with wonderful photographs, what is the real reason behind this kaleidoscope of colour? Douglas David Seifert investigates the science behind the splendour of the world's coral reefs and gives us a perspective on the reef through the eyes of its inhabitants, with his spectacular photography accompanying the research.

Avi Klapfer is a sailor, photographer, adventurer and entrepreneur behind one of the world's most successful liveaboard companies - Cocos Island's Undersea Hunter Group. Mark 'Crowley' Russell managed to catch up with him in-between projects to find out what makes Costa Rica and Cocos Island so very special – you can read the interview here. Avi's latest project, Costa Rica Blue, written with American writer Genna Marie Davies, is a wonderful and comprehensive guide to diving around Costa Rica and Cocos Island, and we are very pleased indeed to be able to bring the readers of DIVE a very special preview.

A small resort on the island of New Britain in Papua New Guinea has been at the forefront of marine conservation and research for more than a generation. Louise Murray talked to the scientists who frequent Walindi Resort and enjoyed some first-hand insights into everything from the wanderings of larval fish, to the pecking order among clownfish.

OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli consistently tops the polls as one of the best resorts in the Maldives - it came second in last year's DIVE Travel Awards. Its unique position in the middle of one of the main arteries connecting the atoll to the open ocean makes for some high-energy diving in a simple, all-inclusive luxury setting. Chloe Smith paid a visit to resort, which was refurbished an reopened in 2015 to discover what all the fuss is about.

Wetsuits are among the most personal items of gear that a diver can buy, and owning your own is far better than struggling into a rental suit that doesn't fit and always leaks. Mark 'Crowley' Russell rounds up some of the best suits on the market for 2018.
