Exploring The Pozo Azul Cave System

For nearly fifteen years a team of courageous cave divers has been probing the Pozo Azul cave system – each year going further and further, breaking records, pushing themselves and their gear harder and harder. The sense of adventure and excitement was palpable. A vast second sump of more than 5km in length. A third more than 3km. Dramatic waterfalls, fast flowing rapids, razor sharp rocks, stunning galleries never before seen by human eye. On and on they went into the darkness. They broke the world record for the longest underwater cave penetration back in 2010. The sumps were getting shorter, the dry passages longer. Perhaps the quest was nearing completion and last year they thought they were poised for the final push.
