Tribute To Andy Moll

DIVE magazine is sad to announce that the long-standing BSAC member Andy Moll has failed to resurface from a wreck dive in Dorset

Andy Moll, a member of the Bristol-based Severnside Sub Aqua Club, has been officially reported missing after he failed to resurface from a wreck dive near Swanage, off the Dorset coast on Sunday afternoon.

The father-of-four has 30 years of diving experience and visited Swanage with two other members of the Severnside BSAC branch to dive the wrecks of the Kyarra and the Aparima.

Search and Rescue was alerted at around 4:30pm by concerned fellow divers, but the extensive search which involved the Coastguard, helicopters and RNLI Swanage and Poole volunteers, was suspended on Sunday night.

The former BSAC Honorary Secretary and council member has been officially reported missing to the police.

Severnside Chairman, Leon Smith, said, 'We are immensely grateful for the dedication and professionalism of the Coastguard staff and RNLI Swanage and RNLI Poole volunteers who assisted those club members on the dive and undertook an extensive air and sea search of the area.

'Andy has been a long-standing, active, and well-respected member of the diving community for more than thirty years. He has been active with BSAC at a national level, a respected instructor, and a good personal friend to a great many members of Severnside SAC and many others in the diving community.

'Everyone who knows Andy is truly devastated by recent events and our thoughts and concerns are with his family and all those involved.

'We trust that the diving community will respect the privacy of his family and friends as they deal with this great tragedy. The family have asked that fellow divers show their respects by avoiding speculation as to the circumstances of this incident whilst official enquiries are ongoing.'

Mary Tetley, BSAC Chief Executive said, 'He was full of passion and enthusiasm and the BSAC, and had a true love of scuba diving, and all that went with it. Andy was also a real family man and our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to them, in particular his wife Elaine and four daughters.'

'Andy will be truly missed by his BSAC club where he had so many friends, and the wider BSAC family,' she added.

TV presenter and diver Monty Halls said: 'Very sad indeed to hear the news about Andy - a really lovely man, and a great ambassador for our sport. RIP.'
