Divetech's Women's Dive Day Fundraiser for Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation
Divetech, based on the Caribbean island of Grand Cayman, is planning to honour Women's Dive Day again this year with a charity fundraiser for the Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation.
More than 2.3 million people were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. One in 8 women in the US – and 1 in every 7 in the UK – will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. In light of these devastating statistics, Divetech is inviting divers from all over the world to contribute to a total of 2.3 million seconds – or 639 hours – of dive time to raise funds in aid of Cancer research.
Divetech celebrates Women's Dive Day each year with a fundraising event, setting the world record for longest underwater human chain in 2018, breaking their own record again in 2019 and, in 2020, swimming a cumulative distance of 58 miles, equivalent to the circumference of Grand Cayman. 100 per cent of all proceeds raised during the event go directly to charity.
This year, due to continued worldwide travel restrictions, divers and snorkellers from around the world are being invited to add to the tally by pledging a donation and then sending screenshots of their dive computers to add to the total.
'We have so many women who cannot be here in Cayman again this year so we are encouraging everyone who isn’t in Cayman to join us from wherever they are, even if it is from their bathtub,' said Divetech owner, Joanna Mikutowicz.
The main event will be hosted at Lighthouse Point on Saturday, 17 July, with the main event beginning at 12pm. A donation of CI$35 will cover two dives, tanks and weights, and there will be snacks available and a raffle held during the day. Women, men and children are all invited to take part, even if they are non-divers.
'Even if you don’t dive, just come hang out in our sea pool, go for a snorkel, and just be a part of a really fun event full of like-minded individuals,' said Mikutowicz. 'You can snorkel with us, or at your local site and have it count. We're not picky, it's all about raising money for a good cause!'
Those who will be on Grand Cayman and would like to join in the event should contact Divetech to sign up for the event. For more information, visit Divetech's website at www.divetech.com, or follow the team on the Divetech Facebook page and YouTube channel.
