Palau Siren Capsizes During Storm

The SY Palau Siren has reportedly capsized off Palau's coast in the night of 3 August

Strong winds pushed the luxury liveaboard against the cliffs causing a leak on Monday morning. The vessel capsized and became partially flooded in the shallow waters near the Wonder Channel the same night, Koror State Government (KSG) Chief Administrative Officer Earnest Ongidobel said according to the Island Times.

All guests and crew members were rescued unharmed.

The Palau Environmental Quality Protection Board, with support of an engineer from the local dive operator Sam's Tours Palau, flew out to the scene to prevent and monitor any possible oil spill.

'Fortunately, no one got hurt and no oil spill was reported so far,' Ongidobel stated.

Currently, the Palau Siren is stuck in the channel due to the bad weather which has so far obstructed any attempt to salvage the vessel.

Staff from World Wide Dive & Sail First and Siren Fleet who are on site said they were hopeful that the S/Y Palau Siren would sail again soon.

'The good news is that it appears that the hull is undamaged and, though repairs will obviously be required, she is expected to be fully operational again. However, at this point, we are still working on time scales,' a Facebook statement said last Thursday.

Guests how have booked a trip aboard the Palau Siren will be contacted shortly.
