Diviac Online Holiday Company is Now PADI Travel
PADI, the world's largest scuba diving training agency, has recently announced its acquisition of Diviac, an online travel agent for scuba diving holidays.
Diviac was founded in 2012 by Swiss entrepreneurs Joel Perrenoud and Thomas Achhorner, originally as an internet-based logbook for divers to log their dives, to share their experiences with friends, and act as proof of dive experience for dive centres.
Smartphone apps were released in 2015, shortly followed by the first version of the Diviac Travel website, which incorporated the pre-existing dive operator review site Scubadviser.com.
In a statement released in their online magazine on 18 January, Diviac Travel announced the acquisition by stating that 'as of today, Diviac is now PADI travel.'
Adding that they currently claim to have the largest selection of liveaboards and dive centres on the market, the announcement continues: 'PADI Travel is designed to energize and grow the overall diving community for the benefit of everyone in the dive industry. It offers more dive destinations and more dive holidays than any other travel company in the world, and it will continue to expand over the coming months with increased dive resort offerings.'
'For more than half a century, PADI has been committed to education, exploration, community and conservation,' said PADI CEO Drew Richardson, in a statement announcing the new acquisition. 'With the new PADI Travel, we are building on this dedication to offer a complete ecosystem for divers to discover more of the world. We are thrilled to expand our travel offering to provide top-notch services to divers in every corner of the globe. We anticipate the platform will only continue to grow and flourish as a key resource for divers and travellers alike.'
The new PADI travel website is available at travel.padi.com. Divers who have already booked holidays through Diviac will have their pre-existing travel arrangements honoured under the new brand.
