Additional Flights to St Helena for Peak Whale Shark Season
From December 2018 to April 2019 – peak season for whale shark activity – a further 19 flights will be available to the UK Overseas Territory of St Helena.
The additional flights are to be added to the existing SA Airlink schedule serving St Helena, just over a year after the first commercial air service to the island was launched. The additional flights will take place on Tuesdays from Johannesburg, in addition to the existing Saturday service. An additional flight is also planned to Ascension Island in December 2018 and again in January 2019 to meet anticipated demand during the peak period.
A commercial service to St Helena's new airport has been operating since 14 October last year, bringing with it a much-needed increase in tourism to one of the world's most remote, inhabited islands. Some of the existing flights for the 2018 / 2019 peak season are already fully booked.
'These additional flights are an incredibly positive step for tourism as we look ahead to the first anniversary of the service launching,' says Helena Bennett, Director of Tourism for St Helena. 'Visitors will now have the option of three, four, seven and ten-night stays – or indeed longer – on St Helena, affording more opportunities to enjoy all the wonders available. Whether that’s ticking off the 21 Post Box Walks, swimming with whale sharks, uncovering our amazing heritage or discovering the fascinating endemic species'
The Additional flights for the peak period 2018/19 are now available to book via the Airlink website at: https://flyairlink.com/ and through all normal IATA global distribution systems. Return flights from Johannesburg to St Helena cost from £804 per person.
