TUI Announces Sharm Holidays on Sale From Next Week
Travel operator TUI UK has announced that it will begin selling holiday packages with direct flights to Sharm El Sheikh from 7 November, with its first flights departing in February 2020.
The announcement follows just a week after the UK government rescinded the four-year-long travel advisory against all but essential travel through Sharm airport, effectively banning direct flights from the UK to Sharm. Less than 12 hours after the ban was lifted, Red Sea Holidays announced that flights from Gatwick will be available from 22 December.
The first flights to be offered by TUI will be from London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, with additional flights from Doncaster, Sheffield and Bristol available from May 2020
Mark Hall, Director of Product and Destination Experience TUI UK & Ireland said ‘Sharm El Sheikh was always a hugely popular destination and I am delighted to confirm that we are reintroducing the Egypt favourite to our Winter 2019 and Summer 2020 programmes. In response to customer demand, our first flights will operate in February 2020 and our resorts are all looking forward to welcoming our customers back with a smile.’
Daniel Stokes, resident Sharm instructor and dive guide told DIVE, 'The resort and especially the dive community is positively fizzing with excitement at the announcement of the first big tour operator to return to Sharm, so soon and from a range of airports across the UK. This is really great news!'
