Virtual Postcards From One of the Caribbean's Favourite Diving Destinations
The island of Curaçao in the southern Caribbean is regularly voted as one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world, placing fifth overall in DIVE's 2019 Travel Awards. During the difficult days of the coronavirus lockdown, Nature Pics Films and Dive Curaçao teamed up to produce a series of virtual postcards of the island and its diving to remind previous visitors of happier days and let anybody who hasn't been there before know what they're missing for making post-lockdown holiday plans.
Here in Episode 13, we visit All West Apartments and Diving in Westpunt, and in Episode 14, the Curaçao Sea Aquarium.
Episode 13- All West Apartments and Diving
The village of Westpunt is located behind the Curaçao National Park and Mount Christoffel, approximately 45 minutes by road from Willemstad, but a change of pace that is a whole world away from the streets of the capital. Restaurants such as Sol Food and Sunshine's Getaway become tranquil hideaways to watch the sunset while dining, and just a few steps separate the dive centre at All West Apartments and Diving (managed by GO WEST Diving) from the large house reef of Playa Piskadó, where colourful sponges compete for space along the coral covered reef.
Episode 14 - Curaçao Sea Aquarium
According to the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, back in the early ’80s, Adrian 'Dutch' Schrier dreamed of bringing his passion for the sea closer to the general public. Equipped with acute insight and specialized knowledge, Dutch became very aware that the rare beauty and health of the Caribbean Sea surrounding Curaçao would not last forever if public education about the underwater world was not easily accessible and reasonably affordable. In 1984, Dutch founded the Curaçao Sea Aquarium and now, 35 years later, it has evolved into the Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park which is one of the most unique examples of marine education and tourism facilities in the Caribbean.
