Scubapro's 'Dive Local' Initiative Includes Farne Islands, Oban, Tenerife and More
Why travel to faraway destinations when first-class dive spots are waiting right on your doorstep? Scubapro's new Dive Local Programme asks scuba divers exactly that question, focussing on the best dive sites close to home to avoid some of the travel restrictions placed upon us during the pandemic.
Scuba diving professionals from across the industry have been asked by Scubapro to present the best dive spots in their region, including practical tips on how to get there, which season is best for diving, the equipment required to dive there; plus dive shops and training centres that can turn local dive trips into unforgettable experiences. Sites that have been listed in the early stages include lakes, rivers, dams, a disused mine and some unique coastal dive sites.
Currently, the top-listed destinations include the Farne Islands, Oban in Scotland, Plavnik (Croatia), Karabarun in Izmir, Turkey, and the Spanish island of Tenerife. The list will undoubtedly grow as new dive sites are added.
As part of the Dive Local programme, Scubapro ambassador and underwater photographer Tobias Friedrich and underwater photographer and videographer Marc Hillesheim will present exclusive dive spots from their region and home country of Germany. Presentations from dive professionals in other countries are being planned for the future.
