Luxury Southeast Sulawesi Resort Great for Both Snorkellers and Scuba Divers
Snorkeling Report, founded and managed by Guillaume Astegiano, and Resort Snorkeller, founded by Dr Nigel Thomas, rated more than 360 resorts based on criteria such as the resort's location on the beach, its initial 'wow' factor, the clarity of the water, diversity and health of the marine life, and how much the resorts contributed to the marine environment in terms of conservation, education, sustainability and to the benefit of the local community.
Wakatobi placed second on the list of more than 360 resorts behind Australia's Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.
'With its reef-flat covered with seagrass and its stunning reef drop off full of coral, Wakatobi Dive Resort’s house reef is a top snorkelling spot. Here, at the heart of Wakatobi National Park, snorkellers will discover vibrant marine life,' said the judges. 'The house reef offers convenient snorkelling with healthy corals, seagrass meadows, and myriad marine creatures while numerous sites visited by Wakatobi's day boats have exquisite shallows – this is a snorkeller’s paradise.'
The judges have recommended photographer Pam Osborn’s e-book Reef Life as a guide to what to expect from the resort. All photos in the book were taken by Pam while snorkelling on Wakatobi's House Reef.
