Regaldive 10 nights Deluxe Island Hopping in the Philippines, £945

Ten night package includes one night at Cebu hotel on arrival, four nights at Pura Vida Resort, Dumaguete on BB basis and five nights Ocean Vida Resort, Malapascua on BB basis. Includes 14 dives with Sea Explorers – the dives are split as you wish in each resort for the ultimate in flexibility.

Example itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive Cebu. International flight schedules mean an overnight in Cebu is required. Cebu is a bustling but laid-back town with a busy sea port. Sample hotel - Marco Polo: A good 3* plus option, located just 25 minutes from the airport close to the business district with a restaurant and bar, and plenty of other local options for eating out.

Day 2 Transfer to Pura Vida, Dumaguete. You will either transfer overland to Santander and then take a small boat or you will take a ferry from Cebu to Dumaguete via Tagbilaran (on Bohol island). Each transfer takes 3 to 4½ hours and is arranged locally according to the best options that fit your flights, local logistics and the tides.

The main attraction in the area is Apo Island - one of the best known Philippines diving destinations. Apo is a tiny marine sanctuary (the island itself covers just 72 hectares) that is teeming with fish and beautiful corals. There are ten dive sites around the island and each has something different to offer; from exhilarating drift dives at some locations to gentle shallow dives over hard and soft corals at others. At Apo Island there is a huge variety of fish species, crustaceans and nudibranch. The schools of jacks can sometimes number over 2,000 fish. For both micro and macro lovers this is truly blue heaven. Apo Island is about 30 minutes away from the dive centre at Pura Vida resort.

The Pura Vida Resort also offers superb shore diving on its house reef. The sandy bottom slopes down from 1-20m and there is also a 12m long steel boat wreck to be found. There is a large variety of rare species. This is an ideal place for training and the perfect environment for great night dives.

Days 2 to 5 4 nights on Bed & Breakfast basis with 3 to 4 days diving time.

Day 6 Transfer to Ocean Vida, Malapascua. Completing the transfer from Dumaguete in reverse, the interesting journey from Cebu to Malapascua involves 4 - 5 hours overland to Maya, then a 30 minute boat transfer in usually calm waters. If client numbers allow, Sea Explorers will do their best to fit in a dive at a relevant site during your transfer, so you may have a glimpse of another area.

Malapascua is a tiny, picturesque island just off the northern tip of Cebu, part of the Visayas group of islands. You can walk around Malapascua in a few hours or simply relax on the stunning white sands of Bounty Beach. Away from the main beach there are several small villages and lots of little coves and bays to discover. This is a perfect destination to dive, relax and unwind.

From this magical island, you can catch a glimpse of the elusive thresher shark at Shark Point, one of the few places in the world where there are regular sightings of these shy and unusual creatures. Be dazzled by the colours of the mandarin fish on a night dive or get your macro lens ready for an up close encounter with a pygmy seahorse at Gato Island.

With great wreck dives including the Donna Marilyn and idyllic day trips also on offer this diving destination cannot fail to excite. Manta Rays are most prevalent here in the rainy season, June to August, but may be spotted year round.

Days 6 to 10 5 nights on Bed & Breakfast basis with 4 days diving time.

Day 11 Return transfer to Cebu for your onward arrangements

Extra nights can be booked in the last resort on this itinerary to match your international flight schedule or you can opt for trips longer than 10 nights. Each itinerary is completely tailor made.

Blue O 2

Blue O TwoPhilippine Siren

Malapascua and the Visayas,  10 nights, £2,799

Departing from Malapascua the SY Philippine Siren crew welcome their guests aboard to spend the first 2-3 days of the trip diving Monad Shoal, Gato Island and the Dona Marilon wreck.

A mix of macro critters including sea horses and ghostpipefish are commonly seen, but its the change to seee thresher sharks and manta rays that have our guests repeating dives at Monad Shoal.

Moving northwards we then encounter Maripipi, Santo Nino and Almagro Islands where topography ranges from dark volcanic sand to steep reef walls laden with sea fans and sponges. Marine life found here includes longnose hawkfish, white tip reef sharks and blue spotted stingrays.

Dives at the Naranyan and Capul Pass follow. Here divers can expect some current as the tides move in through the channels from the Pacific Ocean, which can bring forth pelagics such as grey reef sharks and wahoo.

Reaching Ticao we dive the Manta Bowl to spot these gentle giants drawn here by the plankton bloom from the San Bernadino Pass. Thresher sharks and the occasional hammerhead have also been spotted here. The island has a range of sites, some where currents can be expected to bring schools of fish, while there are plenty of relaxed dives where schools of bannerfish, triggerfish, butterflyfish and fusiliers literally engulf divers.

Our trip culminates in Donsol, where numerous whale sharks can be seen in the shallow waters of the bay. Only snorkelling is permitted but this provides a better interaction all round.

This trip involves some long distance travel with some 120 nautical miles covered. Your cruise director will schedule up to 30 dives and a snorkelling excursion though this will be dependent on the conditions during your cruise.

Trips also operate in reverse, departing from Donsol and culminating in Malapascua.

Experience a land of over 7,100 beautiful islands with tropical rainforests, caves and waterfalls; stunning beaches, pristine reefs and one of the most diverse marine eco systems in the world. Scientists have likened the huge diversity of marine life to that of the most prolific rainforests. Dive with the dugongs at Dimakya Island, encounter thresher sharks at Malapascua or experience fluorescence diving in Moalboal. For wreck enthusiasts, do not miss the Japanese WW ll vessels in Coron. The underwater diversity is overwhelming and one of the best ways to explore is either by island hopping or by one of the liveaboards which offer different itineraries in the North and South depending on the season. Generally, the dry season is November through to June although there are plenty of exceptions to the rule in this island nation.

Example itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Cebu & transfer to the resort. If you choose Moalboal as your diving destination the transfer can take place at any time of the day. If Bohol is however your chosen destination then your flight needs to arrive in Cebu in the morning for your ferry connection to the island.

Day 2 to 6: Start your diving adventure along the coast of Moalboal or on the Amba area of Bohol.

Day 7: Rest day – this is the perfect time to explore some of the uphill sights both destinations have to offer. In Moalboal you can go on a magnificent trip to the Kasawan Falls or if you choose Bohol as your base destination then the Chocolate Hills are a must visit.
