2021 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is Open For Entries!
The 2021 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards has begun, and entries are being accepted for this year's most entertaining animal portraits – and we're calling on our readers to fill out the underwater category with some comedy critter shots.
Last year's awards saw much success for underwater photographers, as Terry the Grumpy Green Turtle beat a photobombing giraffe and a singing ground squirrel to win the 2020 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards outright from a record number of entries from all around the globe.
The competition, which opened on 1 March, GMT was co-founded by Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, both professional photographers, who wanted to create a photographic competition that focused on the lighter side of wildlife. The competition is open to the public and free to enter, with a closing date of 30 June 2021. The top shot this year will win a Maasai Mara safari in Kenya with Alex Walker's Serian, plus a unique, handmade trophy.
Together with the photo competition, the founders have dedicated themselves to supporting a small grassroots conservation project each year - and to start them off, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards will be supporting the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program, which aims to support and protect both the species and the rainforests of Borneo where they live. This year's judging panel will include wildlife photographers Daisy Gilhardini and Tim Laman; Telegraph online travel editor Neil Stevenson; and see some returning regulars – TV presenter Kate Humble; actor and comedian Hugh Dennis; wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas; wildlife expert and co-founder of The Born Free Foundation Will Travers OBE; Ashley Hewson, the Managing Director of Affinity Photo; picture editor Celina Dunlop; and conservationist Bella Lack.
