Suunto Release Recreational Version of the Eon Steel - the New Eon Core

suunto eoncore1000

Finnish computer manufacturer Suunto has introduced its colourful new EON Core, a compact dive computer with a large colour display, designed to serve beginners as well as advanced recreational divers.

Product features include smartphone connectivity and wireless tank pressure information via Suunto's Tank POD system. The software is fully updatable and the Core comes with a rechargeable battery.

The Core is, effectively a slimline version of the award-winning EON Steel, a customisable and very robust dive computer which has become popular among technical divers, but which is perhaps just that little too large for the active recreational scuba diver, a sentiment echoed by Juha Suoniemi, Dive Business Unit Director of Suunto. 'The premise of designing the Suunto EON Core was to answer divers’ needs for a lightweight and compact colour screen dive computer without compromising the features and technology Suunto is known for,' said Suoniemi.

The Suunto EON Core’s wide, clear colour screen provides all the important key dive details in bright, high contrast colours. The new prominent display option shows the most important dive information with large, legible numbers that are easy to read and understand at a glance.

The default screen information is suitable for all entry-level divers, and more advanced divers can take advantage of the Suunto CustomDisplay, which allows the modification of the information presented on up to five different displays, to cater for personal preference. The always-on, adjustable LED backlight ensures that whichever data you choose to display, it's easily visible in murky waters, exploring the dark interiors of wrecks, or diving at night.

If you are a beginner diver, you can choose the clear ready-to-use default screens for your dive. For more advanced divers, Suunto CustomDisplay enables modifying the features displayed on up to five different displays to meet your personal diving preferences.

Light-weight and re-chargeable with easy-to-use menus

The re-enforced composite case is light-weight and comfortable on any size of wrist, with an elastomer strap catering easily to all thicknesses of exposure suit, and a bungee (sold separately) is also available.

The re-chargable battery can be charged via USB, and will last for between 10-20 hours on one charge, depending on your choice of settings. The 3-button menu system is intuitive and similar to the EON Steel, supports 17 different languages, and the buttons are easily accessible, even with thick gloves.

Wireless transfer of dive logs and updatable software

Dive logs can be transferred to a mobile device via Bluetooth, using the Suunto Movescount App, which will also allow you to change your settings, keep a diving diary and share your underwater adventures and pictures.

The Suunto EON Core is also compatible with the Suunto Tank POD, allowing you to wirelessly connect with up to 10 Suunto Tank PODs to display tank and gas information during the dive.
