Lifting the Flight Restrictions to Sharm El Sheikh - How You Can Help

open sharm title1000

The only way that we, the general public, can make a difference is by getting the word out and spreading it as far and wide as possible. Sharm is not out of reach, it's just that getting there from the UK is somewhat inconvenient. Many people are visiting, and almost all of them are flying there, so what can we possibly do to try and get the FCO to rethink their approach to Sharm and get the travel advisory lifted?

Sign The Petition

The UK government website allows members of the public to start a campaign for action. Several petitions have been started but none has reached very far. The petitions are only open to the UK public, but at 10,000 signatures the government has to take notice and respond, and at 100,000 signatures the petition has to be considered for debate in Parliament. Write to your MP

That’s what they are there for. You can find your MP and all their contact details at, or click the picture below to get started. There are other helpful websites available, such as Send them an e-mail, write them a letter, pop into one of their offices. Write to other MPs, cabinet ministers and Lords. Be polite, concise and present factual reasons as to why you think the travel advisory should be lifted.

Go there!

It’s still easy and relatively inexpensive to get to Sharm. In-direct flights are inconvenient and off-putting, especially for those with young children or with limited time availablle, but there are plenty of options available. Camel Dive Club has a full list of direct flights available from European airports on their website, with alternative routes for those countries which are not yet flying. One option is to fly via Europe, or take a national carrier to Cairo and an internal flight to Sharm. One of the most popular routes is via Istanbul with Turkish Airways, so popular that they have started to offer free tours of the city during the layover. Spread the word

If you or your friends have visited recently, share the experience on social media. Follow your favourite dive centre’s social media feeds and like, share or retweet everything they post. Remind people that it’s still a great place to visit, as safe as can be, with some of the best diving in the world. Raising public awareness will hopefully get more people to rethink their dive holiday options.
